| | Sydney Airport or Kingsford Smith International Airport, October 28, 2007
I had my passport stamped, retrieved my luggage, exchanged some notes, and went to Customs.
Australia is very strict with the items that you bring in. You're not allowed to bring any food or native material from outside, unless you declare it, which Customs would then have to check to see if you can bring it in. IF you think that you can get away with not declaring any food or unauthorized item in, think again. If they caught you, you'll be fined, or maybe even jailed.
It was very funny that the customs person upon hearing that I'm from the Philippines asked me, whether I had any 'polvorons' with me. Hehe.. I guess they are used to a lot of Filipinos bringing it or dried mangoes for their friends and family. I was so afraid that they would just confiscate anything that I bring so wasn't able to bring any. :(
I promise to bring some for my officemates next time, IF I ever return. ;) :)
Inside the airport was airconditioned so I was delightfully surprised to step out to a fairly nice weather. Not too sunny, not too dark, a little windy, which kept the temperature low, just the way I like it. :)
As I was about to step out, I was met by a nice man, who drives a shuttle service to the city. I agreed to wait for more passengers before the shuttle had to leave. It was a fairly short wait. There was another Asian-looking girl who sat beside me, an elderly couple returning from their vacation, a younger Taiwanese couple on vacation, a guy and a girl talking to each other about their trips abroad, and me.
It was a nice drive from the airport to the city. The scenery was really nice. And I learned for the first time that it's right hand driving in Australia.
After several stops, I was next. The driver let me off right in front of Pacific International Apartments where I'll be staying for the rest of my trip. He helped me unload my baggage and then I was on my way inside the hotel. |
| | My Qantas flight (QF20, seat 41J) last Oct 27 8pm from Manila arriving at Sydney Oct 28 7am. Flight was delayed due to the fog, and we had to make a stopover at Cairns to refuel. We weren't allowed to leave the plane though :p. Arrived at Sydney Airport around 11 am. Explored the airport a bit, took some, ok a lot of brochures, charged my cellphone at the girl's bathroom (thanks to Felice for the adaptor), then went online at the Free Internet access terminal before taking the shuttle (AUD 10) to my apartment. :) |
